During the mania of spring 2010 was my hubby and I’s fourth wedding anniversary. He was sweet enough to book us a little getaway, but leaving town wasn’t an option in the middle of Earth month, RiverRun and launching loyale’s spring 2010 collection (the downside to being married on Earth Day, I suppose). We had to reschedule and this past weekend, we skipped town and drove the majestic Blue Ridge Parkway to Pisgah National Forest.
We stayed at the Pisgah Inn, which is actually a glorified motel, however it boasts the most spectacular, unobstructed views of the Blue Ridge Mountains! We lolled around the balcony reading books, went hiking miles and miles (where I saw a black bear on the trail and ran the opposite direction), enjoyed viewing some of the beautiful water falls in the area and ate delicious food. We also saw Cold Mountain (it is an actual place), which was the inspiration behind the incredible Charles Frazier book; apparently his great, great-uncle lived in a neighboring town and was the muse for the main character, Inman.
All in all it was such a pleasant weekend…We really love the forest and now I am officially obsessing over this tree house build by Baumraum so we can live amongst the trees…
I cannot believe it is already the middle of the summer! I hope you are having a good one…
I just received my very own Emily Necklace in the mail yesterday! The best part about it is…it’s even more gorgeous than any photo can express. It is definitely going to turn heads. Sadly it is a bit grand for my Winston-Salem lifestyle, so I am already conjuring up fantasies about being invited to a wedding in Venice or a weekend trip to Paris to give the necklace its proper debut…hello, universe, are you listening…
I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate Rachel of Gemma Redux. She recently won a space at the prestigious CFDA Fashion Incubator and her business is doing exceptionally well, which I am so pleased about! Thanks again Rachel for the unique collaboration with loyale and keep up the good work!
And speaking of Emily – the Emily Deschanel just gave loyale a wonderful plug on Ecouterre a few weeks ago. I always feel honored that she is one of loyale’s biggest fans. Thanks Emily!

Screen printing…I have a new hobby! How neat is the whole thing? I just took 2 classes to get a grip on the process and am so in love! I now plan to set up a workshop in my basement to get a little operation started…exciting!

If you have been following my blog or loyale for any length of time, you will know of my love of Polaroid camera photos. Like many of you, I am sure there was a collective scream of terror when news emerged of Polaroid’s plans to cease production of their magical film two years ago. I went to Amazon immediately and bought 10 packs of film (I wanted to buy more at the time, but sadly said film is expensive and I could only invest so much). I have savored the film quite well, yet this past weekend I just finished the final pack…there was a melancholy that my Polaroid 600 given to me by my dear friend Amee would now only be a decoration. Well, I am so happy to report that after poking around the internet, I have found my solution: The Impossible Project! Their mission is to save instant photography from extinction by inventing and manufacturing new and creative instant film materials at the former Polaroid factory in the Netherlands. I immediately ordered four boxes of PX silver shade, which are only $2 more than Polaroid film used to be. They arrived Friday and let the fun begin! I will scan some images soon and share them with you. Happy 4th!
