Time has been flying + I have been all over the South since my last entry! It all started because my mom has been kind enough to house all of my youngster paraphernalia, as well as my husband’s for the past 10 years, as we lived in cramped NYC quarters. There have been trunks of photos, journals, press clippings, pointe shoes (some of you may know I spent most of my youthful golden years dancing with the San Francisco Ballet), university books + essays, children’s books, music, etc. in her attic for so long a decade that I knew it was time to relieve her of these items + place them in our new home. So we concocted a plan to drive all the inventory from her home in Austin to our home in WS, NC…hence the road trip begins.
At the beginning of November, I spent a lovely 5 days in Austin uncovering vintage treasures first at the Settlement House’s annual fundraiser rummage sale (you must go if you love vintage anything, the event is always at the start of November) + then exploring Burnet Road’s myriad antique + vintage emporiums, it was so spectacular! We also hit up the Celtic fair + had a delightful meal outdoors at Perla’s…then we were off to New Orleans! We made it in 8 ½ hours, settled into a rented apartment off of Dauphine Street (for a local experience always use www.vrbo.com for traveling, forget generic hotels) away from the tourists + spent the next two days exploring + eating our way through the Garden District, Frenchmen Street + the arts/warehouse district. My fave dinner spot was Bayona, such wonderful cuisine + service. November 11th – 13th we wound our way through Mobile, Montgomery, Atlanta, Spartanburg + Hickory enjoying the scenery immensely. After tropical storm Ida had battered WS, NC for three days, we were relieved that the weather resumed its gorgeous fall splendor upon our arrival. My mom was delighted to see our bungalow + we spent several days showing her around town. Highlights of these escapades include the Reynolda vegetable + rose gardens (much research is being conducted for our very own garden) + the Supplement 10 dinner held at the WS downtown lofts. Supplement is a neat supper club that takes place once a month + features only sustainabley + locally grown foods…we gorged on organic pizzas baked on the back of a pick-up truck from Dogtown Pizza – sublime! Check out http://supplementws.blogspot.com/ if you live in the area, it is a blast.
On a side note to the road trip, all the while I was reading my November Vogue magazine + was enthralled by their many eco-articles that are incredibly inspiring + fraught with easy ideas on how to live sustainabley – I read it cover to cover + ripped out several articles…pick up the issue if you haven’t already!
I am glad to be back home + will be posting more frequently in the coming weeks about what’s happening with the loyale fall 10 collection, my vintage furnishing finds, exciting organic gardening developments, as well as more details on the huge online warehouse sale that will be taking place December 1 + 2…
Eco-chic peace! xoxo, Jenny
