as i was closing up shop late on february 13th i received a consequential phone call. it was devon schuster from vogue ringing me from the front lines of fashion week – i knew it must be important. she was seeking out our teal barstow bikini from spring 2007 + was hoping it could be picked up asap so it could be sent to LA for a shoot with gisele. devon had certainly done her research + i was so thrilled that i had archived this style for just such an occasion! for good measure i also threw in the grey topanga blouse, the epitome of beach chic, thinking it would be a good fit. still flying from loyale’s march feature in vogue, my heart skipped a beat at a new opportunity to work with this fabulous publication.
on the following monday i received another call from devon from the shoot asking if it would be okay for gisele to take the topanga blouse, apparently she had fallen in love with it during the shoot! i gave the go ahead + held my breath with excitement.
fast forward to march 25th, where upon jane herman emailed me requesting an interview for the “style ethics” section of the magazine – it would seem that this feature would be one page with a story on loyale’s eco-mission…oh my word. i almost didn’t believe it could be true, until i was told a few weeks later to whip up a batch of limited edition barstow bikinis, for the story would be running in the june issue!
this whole breath-taking experience reminded me of one of my favourite quotes, “if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
