i’m the happiest christmas tree

tree-02
it is so amazing how the simple things in life can bring so much joy & introspection.  my hubby & i took a little jaunt to the country this sunday, despite my sniffles, in hunt of a dreamy little tree to make our harlem apartment festive.  is was such a beautiful crisp day & as we pulled into battenfeld’s christmas tree farm in red hook, we became giddy!  there were acres of trees & happy spruce hunters everywhere.  then throughout our search, we were surprised by the great number of “deformed” trees & it brought home to me this idea of perfection we hold in every aspect of our lives.  i am one of those people that can’t really stand for less than perfect, but it truly is an irrational mindset…what & who is perfect?  and who knew cutting a christmas tree down would bring these philosophical questions to mind?   as we put our search for perfection aside, we came upon our tree & we sawed it down…there are some gaps, uneven branches & little spaces, but it is a beauty in its own way & reminds me of a special quote by leonard cohen that i would like to carry through 2009:
“Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything,
That’s how the light gets in.”
eco-chic peace! xoxo, jenny
